Marloes Wijtsma

Oil on canvas

Marloes works in mixed media on large canvases, making intersections between paintings and drawings. She finds a captivating balance in each painting between colour plane and line drawing, abstraction and almost figurative illustration, between empty space and colourful bustle. There is much to discover in small, surprising details and she has a fine handwriting.

Currently, Marloes draws and paints a lot of bouquets and blossoms, making her contemporary translation of Golden Age flower still lifes. The paint flows, drips and splashes on sometimes raw linen containing the detailed drawings of flowers and leaves.
